Your nighttime skin routine contributes to your long-term skin health in several ways. Not only does it wash away oil and impurities that have accumulated over the course of the day, but it also provides the skin with the ingredients it needs to stay clear, healthy, and hydrated. Your nightly skincare regimen is an opportunity to work toward your cosmetic goals with products designed to tackle acne, redness, signs of aging, and any other skin concerns that you’re struggling with.
The order of your skin routine matters. By optimizing the order of your regimen, you’ll ensure that your skin is reaping the maximum benefit from every product. Here’s our step-by-step guide to a nighttime skin routine that will have you waking up with smooth, glowing skin.
Step 1: Cleanser
We recommend using a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural moisture barrier. For oily skin, gel-based cleansers are often best, while dry and combination skin tend to need a cream-based cleanser.
Step 2: Toner
A high-quality toner can balance out your skin’s pH levels and help keep it moisturized. This step should come right after cleansing, as it will prime your skin for the other products in your regimen.
Step 3: Treatments
In this step, you’ll be applying any skincare treatments that you use to maintain and improve the health of your skin. This may include prescription topical medications (for acne, rosacea, etc.), retinol creams, anti-aging and antioxidant serums, or exfoliation treatments. Make sure not to combine too many treatments, as doing so could cause irritation.
Step 4: Moisturizer
Once your treatment has been fully absorbed by the skin, apply a luscious moisturizer to hydrate your skin all night long. During this step, you may also apply an eye cream to nourish the delicate skin around your eyes.
